Translations: between reflections, intersections deepen, grow & emerge (b.r.i.d.g.e.)

Translations: between reflections, intersections deepen, grow, & emerge (b.r.i.d.g.e.) is launching exactly two years after our lives were changed by the global pandemic. It is now 2022 and we have used the Translations process to explore both how we cope individually (in 2020) and how we care for each other (in 2021) during challenging times. In this new iteration, we look toward how we re-emerge. How will we connect with each other and relate to each others’ experiences? How might we share enough to feel seen without having to explain the complexity of how we are doing?

In this project, a chain will be started by two participants tasked with sharing a single word that may relate to the challenges OR the joys experienced during the past two years - as we sometimes might not feel comfortable sharing either with others for fear of how it might come across. Both of the words will then be sent to two different participants who will each be asked to identify a new word AND create art that might exist at the intersection of the two prompts they receive. The chain will continue as each pair identifies a word and makes art at the intersection of the two prior prompts in the chain, until (perhaps!) the two artists might eventually come up with the same word. I’m curious how many links it might take before two artists are able to bridge the divide between disparate experiences and how we can use art to recognize and honor both the diversity and intersectionality of our experience. We’ll have to wait and see what happens!

If you are interested in signing up to participate - either by sharing a word or creating artwork bridging two prompts, please complete this form.

Only requirements are:
1. that you complete your work in a somewhat timely manner (hopefully within a 3-4 days of receipt) so that we can keep the chain going.
2. that you please not submit art that is overtly sexual, racist, violent, or discriminatory.
3. that you not publicly post/include any other artists' work without permission.
